Is Diving in Okinawa and the Kerama Islands Difficult?

To start with the conclusion, diving in the Kerama Islands is not very difficult. Divers of all levels, from beginners to advanced, can enjoy it. Our guests range from people who have only recently obtained their diving license to highly experienced divers.

Basically, our diving tours in the Kerama Islands are conducted by anchoring the boat in shallow areas before diving. Because of this, even beginners, divers who are not confident with descents, or those who have not dived for a long time can enjoy diving safely and comfortably.

A Simple Guide to Diving in Okinawa and Kerama Islands

Water Temperature

Spring (April–June): 22–26°C
Summer (July–September): 27–30°C
Autumn (October–November): 24–27°C
Winter (December–March): 19–22°C

Tank

In Okinawa, steel tanks are mainly used. Since they are heavier underwater than aluminum tanks, you can usually reduce your weights by 1–2 kg compared to when using aluminum tanks.

Underwater Visibility

Underwater visibility is generally around 20–30 meters on average. In many cases, you can see the seafloor from the surface right after entering the water. You can enjoy the beautiful “Kerama Blue” without feeling any fear.

Current and Water Conditions

On our tours, we basically dive in areas with weak currents and calm, wave-free conditions. On the third dive, we may sometimes do a relaxed drift dive, gently riding a mild current.
