Is Diving in the Kerama Islands, Okinawa in Winter Cold?

Is Diving in the Kerama Islands, Okinawa in Winter Cold?

Late December to March is the middle of winter in the Kerama Islands. During this season, the water temperature is usually around 22–23°C around the New Year holidays, and about 21–22°C from January to March. With a wetsuit and an inner suit, you can still enjoy fun diving.

Of course, since it is winter, it would be a lie to say it’s not cold. However, with the right wetsuit, diving is definitely possible.

To help you stay warm during surface intervals, we prepare boat coats and jackets. We also have hot water on the boat, which you can use for coffee, warm drinks, soup at lunch, or cup noodles. The diving boat we use also has a hot shower available.

Cold but Comfortable! Winter Diving in Okinawa!

Winter diving in Okinawa can feel cold, but there are also many advantages that make it a comfortable and enjoyable experience. For example, the boat is much less crowded compared to summer, and you can relax and enjoy the trip more. Dive groups are also smaller, so you can take your time and dive at a slower pace.

With proper cold-weather protection, winter diving can be very comfortable—so it would be a waste to miss the chance to dive in Okinawa during winter!

Which Dive Sites Do We Visit in Winter?

Even during the winter season, we still dive at the same dive sites as usual. Basically, we choose calm dive points on the leeward side of the islands, where the wind does not hit directly.

So even if the wind is a little strong, the dive sites are usually calm, and we can dive as normal.
